Get Certified in HLTAID015 – Provide Advanced Resuscitation & Oxygen Therapy (Express)

The Provide Advanced Resuscitation and Oxygen Therapy (HLTAID015) course has a pre-requisite of HLTAID011 Provide First Aid, which must be completed prior to undertaking this unit of competency.

With instruction and practical training in line with Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines and other Australian national peak clinical bodies, this Advanced Resuscitation course teaches the skills and knowledge to recognise emergencies and provide immediate and effective CPR, first aid treatment and oxygen therapy in a range of complex situations, including community and workplace settings.

Instruction on first aid and CPR will be provided, as well as treatments specific to advanced conditions, such as:

  • inserting an appropriate basic airway adjunct,
  • using tourniquets and haemostatic dressings for life-threatening bleeding,
  • and administering oxygen safely at the correct flow rate.

The course covers recording casualty conditions, conveying incident details, completing workplace incident documentation, and debriefing to recognise areas for improvement, psychological impacts, and seeking help as required.

The delivery mode for this course is a combination of online learning, followed by face-to-face assessment. The online component takes approximately 2 hours and the face-to-face assessment 3.5 hours.

The best training facility I have ever used. The CPR dummies are very modern and up to date — not the old, worn-out ones that many other places still use. The trainers genuinely care about what they are teaching and are clearly passionate about helping people learn, rather than just treating it as a job.

My only criticism would be the automated email reminder system, which sometimes sends emails very late at night or early in the morning (around midnight to 2am). Other than that, the overall experience was excellent.

I attended the LVR-CPR course on Thursday. The trainer was good overall, however during the LVR assessment a comment from another participant felt uncomfortable and seemed related to my accent as a non-native English speaker.
It would be great to ensure the learning environment remains respectful and inclusive for everyone. It might also help if trainers address this kind of situation when it happens.

OK, from the word go Tess was amazing. Course Delivery Mode and Assessment Information

Course Delivery Mode:

Online learning followed by face to face assessment.

Online Component:

This self-paced online component takes around 2 hours to complete, depending on your level of experience. It covers the theory components of the course through a series of video and online theory questions. You may choose to complete this during one or a number of sessions. You can also review the online theory after the course if you wish. We recommend that this component be completed using Google Chrome.

Face to Face Training:

This part of the course will take 3.5 hours to complete. During this time you will cover the following assessment areas.

Performance Tasks and Practical Scenarios:

  • Perform CPR on an adult (incl. the use of bag-valve-masks, oxygen equipment, an AED and placing the casualty into the recovery position)
  • Perform CPR on an infant
  • Manage a casualty with anaphylaxis
  • Manage a casualty with asthma
  • Manage a choking casualty
  • Manage a casualty with non-life-threatening bleeding and shock, requiring minor wound cleaning
  • Manage a casualty with a nosebleed
  • Manage a casualty with a fracture and dislocation
  • Manage a casualty with a sprain and strain
  • Manage a casualty with envenomation (snake/ funnel-web spider bite)
  • Manage a casualty with life-threatening bleeding and provide supplemental oxygen
  • Maintain resuscitation equipment
  • Complete two separate incident report forms

It is recommended that the First Aid Component be renewed every 3 years, in line with industry standards.

It is recommended that the CPR Component be renewed every 12 months, inline with Australian Resuscitation guidelines.

To ensure you can successfully complete your practical training we ask the following:

  • Arrive 10 minutes prior to the course start time. (Please note that if you arrive late you will not be able to attend the course).
  • Wearing appropriate attire.
  • Including enclosed shoes, pants and shirt.
  • Verify your USI.
  • Achieve 100% completion of the online learning material.
  • Provide photo ID upon entry.

If the student does not meet the above requirements, the student will need to reschedule their training. Please that rebooking fees may apply.

Entry Requirements

Participants must have the physical capacity to perform practical demonstrations, such as 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on the floor.

Online study:  Students must have access to a computer, smartphone, tablet or other electronic devices with access to the internet to complete the online/ pre-course studies.

This course has a pre-requisite of HLTAID011 Provide First Aid which much be completed prior to undertaking this unit of competency.

PLEASE NOTE: HLTAID003 Provide first aid is not equivalent to HLTAID011 Provide First Aid and can therefore not be used as a substitute for the pre-requisite requirement.

Do I need a First Aid certificate before I can do the HLTAID015 Advanced Resuscitation course?

Yes. The HLTAID015 Provide Advanced Resuscitation and Oxygen Therapy course at RTS Training has a prerequisite of HLTAID011 Provide First Aid, which must be completed before enrolling. If you hold the older HLTAID003 unit, that is not equivalent to HLTAID011 and cannot be used as a substitute — you’ll need to complete the current HLTAID011 Provide First Aid course first.

What is the difference between HLTAID015 Advanced Resuscitation and HLTAID014 Advanced First Aid?

HLTAID015 Provide Advanced Resuscitation and Oxygen Therapy is a focused course that builds on your existing HLTAID011 First Aid qualification and specifically covers advanced airway management, oxygen therapy and resuscitation techniques. HLTAID014 Provide Advanced First Aid is a broader course that covers advanced first aid topics including head, neck and spinal injuries, hypothermia, hyperthermia and coordinating multiple casualty incidents.
